The United ’96 girls participated in the prestigious WAGS Tournament over
Columbus Day weekend. Considered THE premier all-girls soccer tournament in
the US, the girls faced some tough competition over the three-day weekend.
In their only game on Saturday, United ’96 started with an impressive 8-2 win over Massapequa Explosion. The girls won both games on Sunday, 2-1 over East Meadow Hurricanes and 3-1 over Wall Lady Magic to win their group and advance to the semifinals on Monday morning. United ’96 faced North Rockland Avalanche in the semis and despite having 2 goals called back for offsides in the first five minutes, the girls kept pressing and scored a goal that would stand midway through the first half, and would be all they would need to advance to the championship. In the finals United ’96 faced familiar foe Mount Laurel Blast. In an even and well-contested match, the girls scored late in the second half and held on to win their third tournament in 2008.
United ’96 will be on the road again in November as they head to Raleigh, NC to participate in the CASL Shootout.

United ’96 started off the fall season in great form as they
participated in the Championship flight of the Spirit United Kickoff
Classic. The tournament was host to the top teams in Eastern PA and New
Jersey and Lehigh Valley’s only loss of the weekend came in the
Championship game, 1-0 to Spirit United Gaels, currently ranked #10 in
the US according to NSR.
The girls got off to a great start as the knocked off defending champ FC Bucks Fury 2-1. Their second match was against Mount Laurel Blast who United ’96 had lost to in the final of the FC Delco Player’s Cup over Memorial Day weekend. This time the result was what United was looking for, a 2-0 victory. That put the girls in the semifinal against PA Classics. The girls came out strong from the start and never let PA Classics get going, en route to a 3-0 win. That put United ’96 in the final against Spirit United, a team they had just had 2 friendlies against the previous week in preparation for the tournament. Spirit controlled much of the first half and the beginning of the second and finally scored midway through the second half. Instead of giving up, however, the girls elevated their game and controlled the final 15 minutes with several great scoring chances, including a ball off of the post. Unfortunately time expired and the girls would have to settle for second place. It was nevertheless a great start to the season.
May 24–26, 2008
United ’96 added more hardware to their collection over Memorial Day weekend,
with their only loss coming in the championship game against Mount Laurel
Blast 1-0, a team they had beaten by the same score just two days earlier.
The girls went 3-0 in group play beating Westmont Pride 5-1, Mount Laurel 1-0,
and Farmingdale Rockets 2-0. United ’96 got off to a slow start in the
semifinals against FC Revolution but had a strong second half en route to a
5-2 win.
The championship game was evenly contested and remained scoreless until the final 3 minutes of regulation when Mount Laurel scored on a long range shot, and then held off a few late scoring chances for the victory. United ’96 look to rebound this weekend and finish the Rock Spring League with a perfect 7-0 record.

Lehigh Valley United ’96 participated in the prestigious Jefferson Cup Tournament
held in Richmond, Virginia, this past weekend. The Jefferson Cup is currently ranked the
#5 youth soccer tournament for girls in the United States. Each year the tournament draws
an average of over 150 State Cup Champions, over 50 Regional Champions and over 5 National
Champions per year throughout the nine age groups and turns down an average of over 500
teams per year.
During the entire weekend United ’96 did not concede a goal beating Somerset Hills 3-0 and Wall Lady Magic 1-0 and finishing 0-0 with Baltimore Soccer Club, the #2 ranked team in Maryland. This put them into the Championship game against Patriots FC, one of the top teams from Eastern NY. United ’96 prevailed 1-0 in overtime in a tremendously hard fought and even match. They hope to continue their winning ways as they move into the Eastern PA State Cup competition.

On Saturday March 8th at the Sportsplex in Feasterville, PA United '96 girls joined the Lehigh Valley United U16 boys,
U12 boys, and U11 boys as 2008 Indoor State Cup Champions. The girls opened up with a 2-1 victory over a skillful PA Classics team to
get off to a good start. Game 2 saw United score early and often on route to a 5-0 victory over West Chester. In game 3
the girls had another solid match against a determined Hempfield team winning 3-1. The final group play game was against rival UGH
Fevernova, currently ranked #5 in Eastern PA. In an evenly played back and forth game United scored late and held on to take a 3-2 victory and
advance into the Championship game.
In the Championship United faced HMMS, defending Indoor Cup Champs and the #12 ranked team in the US. HMMS had the run of play in the first 10 minutes, but United held strong only conceding one goal. United started to gain momentum as the game continued and finally netted the equalizer with only 3 minutes remaining in regulation. The game would end tied at 1-1. After nearly 4 and half minutes of sudden death overtime and only 30 seconds from penalty kicks, United ended the game on a thrilling sudden victory goal. Hopefully the girls can continue their success as they move outdoors this spring.
September 1 & 2, 2007
Playing up an age group at U12, the girls had another solid tournament showing. In their first three preliminary round
matches, United ’96 had the run of play and held the lead in all, but conceded goals late to wind up with only
three draws to show for their efforts against Methacton Blue Crush, Nazareth Wildcats, and FC Revolution.
Determined to not let that happen a fourth time, United ’96 scored early and often against Germania Stingers en route to a 5-0 victory. This put them in the championship and in a rematch against Nazareth Wildcats. This time the girls netted three goals in the first half and played solid defense down the stretch to take the tournament title by a score of 3-1.
United ’96 kicks off league play in the Premiership Barca Division of PAGS next weekend against the #1 team in Pennsylvania, FC Bucks Fury.
August 25 & 26, 2007
United ’96 competed in the Championship Division of the Spirit United Kickoff Classic August
25th and 26th against some of the best teams in PA and New Jersey.
In just their second tournament together as a new team, Lehigh Valley played to 1-1 draws
against West Chester Predators ranked #5 in Eastern PA and #12 in Region 1 (NSR Rankings)
and Freehold Wildcats ranked #4 in New Jersey and #11 in Region 1.
Unfortunately advancing in this tournament was not in the cards as the girls dropped a tough match to a more rested Montclair United Cholchesters team ranked #2 in New Jersey and #9 in Region 1, 3-0. The girls will remain local next week as they compete in the Lehigh Valley Tournament. United ’96 will be playing up an age group as they continue to test themselves.
August 4 & 5, 2007
The girls had a strong showing in their first matches together as the new
Lehigh Valley United '96 team. Right out of the gate United faced an
experienced and talented UGH Fevernova team coming off of two recent
Championships at the PAGS Classic and VE Father’s Day Tournaments. After a
scoreless first half United scored two second-0half goals and held off a very
determined Fevernova squad to get the victory 2-1.
In the afternoon match
United faced the Clash from PDA, one of the top girls clubs in the US.
United gave up an early goal in the first 5 minutes of the opening half but
played PDA even for the remainder of the match, nearly getting the equalizer
with 3 minutes to go as the ball careened off of the cross bar. Final PDA (1)
- United '96 (0).
Sunday's match was against the BYC Attack. Perhaps playing their best soccer of the weekend United scored early and often for a 7-0 victory. Hopefully the girls can have some similar success in a few weeks at the Spirit United Kickoff Classic.
